Testicle treat

I’m not writing about anything bizarre or pornographic or weird. I am told, however, that I’m a bit weird. Anywho, what I’m thrilled about is avocado (also known as the testicle fruit). The recipes one can come up with this fruit as the base is countless - chutney, kheer, finger chips, etc etc.

Some I’ve tried, some I haven’t but think would turn out great:

Chutney - A blended puree of avaocado, tomato, lemon, ginger, chilli, salt and pepper (consistency of ketchup or mustard).

Kheer - A blended puree of avocado, soy milk, cinnamon, cardomom, soaked almonds and sugar (consistency of yoplait).

Finger chips - Oven toasted long cut avocado pieces dipped in a mixture of salt, pepper, turmeric, asofetida, gram four or bread crumbs.

Hybrid dosa - Crepes of oats, rice flour and farina mixed with blended avocado. Also, regular crepes mixed with avocado paste.

I am not very much into cooking these days (mainly due to a demanding 8 month old with a reflux problem). But I do enjoy talking about food and learning new things. More so nowadays as I’m cut off from dairy.

Little did I know that I would have dairy withdrawal symptoms. Avocado recipes help me get over them so quickly because they are so delicious!!

Middle ground

Middle ground in painting is a different thing. But middle ground in life is not good. You need to be able to work while you work and not work when you don’t want to.

I have an 8 month old with a reflux problem. So I feel like a failure at home with him not eating as he is supposed to. I have even a single post-production bug that I’m supposed to have caught I feel like a failure at work.

Makes me wonder if this is cyclic. I’m not finding things I’m supposed to find - what else am I not finding or noticing about my son that I’m supposed to?

Things I could learn from my 8 month old

  1. Perseverance
  2. Learning to give up and knowing when
  3. Happiness
  4. Abundant love
  5. Alternate communication
  6. Patience
  7. Openness
  8. Staying young at heart
  9. Forgetting the bad things
  10. Curiosity

P.S: I was going to elaborate each bullet point, but I figured that people who have kids would easily understand why (so what I say would be useless) and those that don’t will not be able to appreciate even if I explain. So why explain?

My new habit

I’m a fan of Leo Babauta and his blog although I don’t agree with lot of his posts like this, because I liked this better. I liked the idea of trying to create a new habit in the “Power of Less” chalenege and succeesing at it while being accountable. In the past, I have tried Sparkpeople, Traineo and such to have some accountability and encouragement, but sadly I would drop them all after a few weeks. What attracted me now is the 30-day factor invloved. I’m thinking “How hard can it be to try this for 30 days?” Let’s see.

Here’s my page in Power of Less challenge. Write me a comment if you are participating as well and need some encouragement!!

Motherhood math

6 hours of sleep + Sex for the first time after baby = “You look pretty”-comments-from co-workers-day

5 hours of sleep + Growth spurt = My boobs want to take a Hawaii vacation

4 hours of sleep + No caffeine = Inventing a language that only I understand

3 hours of sleep + Boring meetings at work = I’m the step-sister of Cinderella

2 hours of sleep + Awesome sex = I’m stupid, but will be extremely nice to everyone today.

1 hour of sleep + <anything> = I’ll donate my gall bladder and its stones for some sleep.

Who am I?

Filed under: Random — Tags: — FMB @ 10:01 pm

There is no easy, interesting way to describe me and this is not a philosophical question. I was trying to come up with details to add in the About Me page and the post was getting to be too big and detailed, so I decided to give it a whole new post of its own.

Like I said, there is no easy, interesting way to describe me.

I would like to think that I’m a very interesting and adventurous person who loves blogging but in reality I don’t think I’m very interesting to most people, lot less adventurous than I’d like to be and some one who hates blogging. Don’t be puzzled. I love to write and express my thoughts on various topics, I even used to keep a diary until a few years back because of my love for the art of writing and reading, but over the course of years I’ve become more of an open, less emotional person than I used to be - hence lower the need for diary-writing. Plus I don’t like the pressures of blogging - keeping up with the posts, having an audience, building momentum, forming a community and having them depend on you etc. (That’s why I like facebook and twitter much better)

Having said all that, I do like the art of blogging. Not everyone can convey what they mean in concise, yet non-boring ways. It definitely is a skill and most certainly an acquired one IMO and that is what makes me attracted to it. I do like being accountable and having a group of followers/subscribers look forward to my content certainly gives me a thrill. I have tried to blog regularly before for several times, but failed because I wouldn’t post enough or often and lose interest eventually. As I was analyzing I found out why:

  1. Lack of vision - No theme for the blog
  2. Lack of planning - Since there was no theme, I did not think ahead or hard to analyze and plan for my posts
  3. Lack of motivation - Since there was no theme or plan, I couldn’t really motivate myself enough
  4. Laziness - If I get rid of this, I’d probably not have any lack of vision, planning or motivation.
How I plan to rectify it this time around?
  1. Come up with a theme - My daily life, baby tips and how I survive (among other topics)
  2. Plan ahead - I am going to try and write considerable amount of posts and stay ahead
  3. Use motivators - Verbal, visual and otherwise to keep myself charged
  4. Overcome laziness - I believe I don’t have time for this nowadays, so it takes care of itself
So, I start 2009 with the intent of:
  • doing more of the things I like
  • liking most of the things I do
  • knowing the difference between the two and
  • trying to bridge the gap

Well, I sort of stole this from the Serenity prayer, but you get the idea.

Here’s what my goals are:

1. Aim to write at least one post per week
  1. I’m not aiming too high, being reasonable. For now one post is fine
  2. Any additional posts I make is a bonus and acts as a motivator.
  3. It is very unlikely that I’ll fail as I can catch up during week ends even if I miss writing during the week
2. Set a theme
  1. I am not fully set on this, but I plan to write about baby stuff, general tips/experience etc
  2. Writing about my passions will form a theme by itself
  3. Specific readers will identify themselves with what I write and its a good thing

3. Keep up motivation

  1. Doing the things I am passionate about will keep me motivated
  2. Reading about the things I love will keep me focused
  3. Reading and discussing other people’s successes will keep me inspired

4. Try and try hard

  1. Overcome laziness - I am already 80%  not lazy (because of the need to keep up with my not-yet-1 year old). Giving up the 20% laziness can do wonders to my personal life
  2. Working hard - Striving to achieve my goals this year and working hard for it will bring in great results
  3. Try and try again - Most important thing is to not give up. There are going to be hard days - sick days, slow days, blue days, hectic days and so many more. The key is to understand that it is the way of life and not easily give up
So what are we waiting for? Let’s roll!
